Name clash
Coalesce.io is a transformation vendor. It is not the “Coalesce” conference that dbt Labs used to run (dbt’s 2026 event is branded dbt Summit; see dbt).
What it is
The coalesce.io homepage tagline (re-fetched 2026-10-07) is “Humans and agents delivering data, together”; the phrase “data operating layer” is also used by the company itself (“Coalesce, the data operating layer for modern data teams”, release of 2026-03-10), so both are marketing taglines. Products: Transform (build and automate warehouse transformations via UI, code or AI agents), Catalog (AI-assisted discovery and documentation), Quality (monitor, test and validate data), and Scout, an always-on data SRE that triages issues and proposes fixes. The docs home also lists a Marketplace and REST/GraphQL APIs.

Coalesce Data Inc.; Armon Petrossian is CEO and co-founder. The company launched publicly in January 2022 after a USD 5.92M seed (Series A release). Funding (company releases): USD 26M Series A led by Emergence Capital (2022-09-28); USD 50M Series B led by Industry Ventures and Emergence Capital (2024-04-04), bringing total funding to USD 81M. Core architecture
Warehouse-native: generates and pushes SQL to the customer’s warehouse. Supported (Transform product page, 2026-10-07): Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, Microsoft Fabric; Amazon Redshift in private preview. Can be launched from Snowflake Marketplace. Column-aware metadata and node-type templates distinguish it from dbt’s plain-SQL-plus-Jinja approach (positioning from vendor material; treat as vendor claim).
Role in an enterprise AI rollout
Governed pipeline authoring where AI agents operate under the same guardrails as engineers; catalog metadata feeds agents. The docs describe a hosted, stateless Transform MCP server run by Coalesce on the regional app host: it lets MCP clients (Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Snowflake Cortex pages exist) list and manage Environments, Projects, Runs and Nodes and trigger refreshes under the caller’s permissions, but it does not deploy Workspaces or author Node SQL (docs.coalesce.io coalesce-ai/mcp/about-mcp).
