While there are no published benchmarks yet (given the protocol’s newness), we can infer some aspects of performance: latency of agent calls will typically be similar to a standard web API call (tens of milliseconds within a data center, or higher if across the internet). If agents chain multiple calls, total latency adds up, so designing cooperative agents might involve co-locating them or planning around network delays. Throughput can be scaled by running more agent instances. One potential performance consideration is that if an agent needs to converse with many other agents simultaneously (fan-out), it may need to manage multiple HTTP connections or threads – something that the agent implementation (not the protocol itself) has to handle.
