K2 shipped an unusual number of parallel variants — numbered point releases, a Linear variant, a
Thinking variant and a Code variant — rather than a single line. K2.7 Code was the high point of
the generation’s visibility: in July 2026 it became the first open-weight model available in
GitHub Copilot, and was widely tested as beating Opus 4.8 and GPT-5.5 on coding at far lower
cost.
