A Slack-native collaboration workflow that lets teams add Claude to a channel and @-tag it into
conversations, where it acts with channel-scoped context, memory, and permissions — reading threads,
opening PRs, editing code, and following up asynchronously rather than just answering in a chat window.

Overview

Claude Tag moves agentic work out of a single-player, IDE-centered workflow (the Claude Code model)
into an asynchronous, Slack-native one. Claude joins a team channel like a teammate, is invoked with
@Claude, and can initiate follow-up action on its own rather than waiting to be re-prompted — tracking
a request through a thread, opening a pull request, and coordinating across the teams a change affects.

Anthropic says it uses Claude Tag internally, and that it opens a large share (reported as ~65%) of the
company’s own product pull requests — positioned as evidence the workflow is a default driver of work,
not a demo feature.

How it works

• Channel-scoped context and memory — Claude learns what each channel/team needs over time; memory
  is scoped by boundary, so information from private channels or DMs stays there
• Its own account and permissions — access is constrained per channel and per connected system; if
  Claude is tagged in the wrong channel for a task, it cannot reach the data or system it would need
• Cross-functional awareness — can recognize that an engineering change affects, say, launch
  marketing, and route/notify accordingly
• Real action, not just suggestions — can edit code, open PRs, create tickets, and orchestrate work
  from intake through implementation and review
• Tunable proactivity — teams can configure when Claude responds, schedules work on its own, or
  jumps into a thread unprompted; not an always-on behavior
• “Dreaming” — a companion pattern where a separate agent reviews Claude Tag’s memory stores and
  session traces to find stale, missing, or misleading context and propose corrections, aimed at
  continual improvement across runs

Use cases

Anthropic’s own internal usage extends beyond engineering: marketing copy, sales briefs, incident
response, weekly reports, and general internal productivity workflows, in addition to the flagship
case of Claude Tag driving product PRs.

Availability

Enterprise/team tier only — coverage from smaller channels (e.g. “Claude Tag Is Enterprise Only, So
Build This Instead”) confirms it is not available on individual/free Claude plans as of mid-2026,
prompting DIY folder-based-context workarounds for solo users who want a similar always-in-Slack pattern
without enterprise access.

Competitive position

Compared in coverage against CopilotKit-style agent platforms and against “Opentag,” a rival Slack-agent
entrant claimed to beat Claude Tag on some benchmarks — the category (agents embedded directly in Slack
rather than a separate chat surface) picked up multiple entrants within weeks of Claude Tag’s launch.
