Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF)

A directed fund hosted by the Linux Foundation, announced 2025-12-09, giving neutral governance to open agent infrastructure.

Founding projects

Later additions

  • agentgateway (traffic management for agents, Apache-2.0, created by Solo.io) was announced by AAIF on 2026-06-04 as its fourth hosted project (aaif.io blog); it had been a Linux Foundation project since 2025-08-25. See agentgateway.
  • Agent Router (formerly Envoy AI Gateway; Apache-2.0; OpenAI-compatible API and MCP endpoints) was announced by AAIF on 2026-09-09 as joining the foundation (aaif.io blog; the repo README says “Envoy AI Gateway is now Agent Router, an Agentic AI Foundation project”). See envoy-ai-gateway.
  • A2A joined on 2026-08-17 (a2a-protocol). AAIF now describes a stack: AGENTS.md (instructions), goose (runtime), MCP (tools), agentgateway (traffic), A2A (agent-to-agent).

Members

  • At launch: 8 platinum (AWS, Anthropic, Block, Bloomberg, Cloudflare, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI), 18 gold, 21 silver.
  • Growth: 180 organizations by May 2026; 247 by 2026-08-13 (AAIF/LF press releases; 2026 gold additions include JPMorgan Chase, Red Hat, ServiceNow, UiPath).

Governance model

Governing board handles strategy and finance; each project keeps technical autonomy (for MCP: maintainers and the SEP process).
