Claude Squad

by smtg-ai (GitHub org smtg-ai)

Terminal application that orchestrates multiple AI coding agents in isolated workspaces for simultaneous task execution

See https://github.com/smtg-ai/claude-squad

Features

  • Background task execution with auto-accept mode for unattended agent work
  • Multi-agent support for Claude Code, Codex, Aider, OpenCode, Amp and other local terminal agents (README and repo description 2026-10-02); agent profiles are defined in ~/.claude-squad/config.json with a profile picker; installs as cs via Homebrew or a curl script
  • Isolated git workspaces using git worktrees to prevent branch conflicts
  • Unified terminal management via tmux sessions for all agents
  • Change review capabilities to inspect and control modifications before applying
  • TUI (Terminal User Interface) for straightforward navigation and management

Superpowers

Claude Squad enables developers to run several agents in parallel by running multiple AI coding agents in parallel, each working on different tasks in complete isolation. Instead of waiting for one agent to complete a task before starting another, you can orchestrate an entire “squad” of AI assistants simultaneously.

Who this is for:

  • Developers managing multiple features or bug fixes across different branches
  • Teams wanting to leverage different AI assistants for different task types
  • Engineers who need to review AI-generated changes before committing
  • Anyone working with AI coding tools who wants better control and parallelization

What you gain:

  • Parallel workflows: Run multiple coding tasks simultaneously without conflicts
  • Branch isolation: Each agent works on its own git worktree and branch
  • Control: Review all changes before accepting them into your codebase
  • Flexibility: Mix and match different AI agents based on task requirements
  • Efficiency: No more context-switching between different agent sessions

Technology Stack

  • Language: Go (86.6%)
  • Dependencies: tmux, GitHub CLI (gh)
  • Core technologies: tmux for session management, git worktrees for isolation

Project Stats

  • 8,557 GitHub stars, 622 forks (GitHub API, 2026-10-02); not archived; last push 2026-08-20
  • License: AGPL-3.0
  • Latest release: v1.0.20, published 2026-08-20 (GitHub API; fixes commit recording for existing-branch sessions and instance recovery when tmux sessions fail). The earlier “2024-08-20” reading was wrong.
  • Earlier note figures (5.5k stars, v1.0.14) were outdated

Alternatives

Claude Code now ships its own subagents, git worktrees and experimental agent teams (Claude Code); Cursor 3 has an Agents Window and Codex and Antigravity have desktop orchestration apps (agent-orchestration-paradigm-shift). Claude Squad remains a terminal-first, agent-agnostic option.
