Fal.ai
by fal (branding now “fal”)
Generative-media inference platform: pay-per-use APIs for image, video, audio and 3D models, plus serverless GPUs.
See https://fal.ai
Billing (fal.ai/pricing, re-fetched 2026-10-02)
- Per-output pricing per model: video per second, image per megapixel or per unit, audio per unit (often per 1,000 characters), 3D per generation.
- Serverless GPUs billed per hour (RTX PRO 6000 and B300 listed).
- Charged by consumption; enterprise arrangements via sales.
- Current prices: see the vendor pricing page https://fal.ai/pricing
Funding (secondary)
December 2025, reportedly: USD 140M led by Sequoia at USD 4.5B valuation, with Nvidia’s NVentures, Kleiner Perkins and Alkeon (techfundingnews, nextbiggames; re-found by search 2026-10-05). Sacra/search results also cite about 2.5M developers and customers such as Adobe, Canva and Shopify (secondary, unverified). Reports in 2026 of talks at about USD 8B (March) and later USD 15B, with annualised revenue reportedly about USD 800M: press/aggregator only, unverified; no round confirmed.
Notes
- Hosts open and partner models such as FLUX (flux-dot-1), Wan (wan-2-dot-5), Kling (kling) and Veo (google-veo); per-model prices in the earlier note were 2025 figures and are not carried over.
- Earlier claims (4x faster inference, 5-10 s cold starts, 99.99% uptime, hundreds of millions of requests daily, Cog containers, 5-minute LoRA training) are vendor marketing, unverified.
- Compare kie-dot-ai (described in its own vault note as a reseller) and comfyui (local).
Merged from laptop copy (2026-10-01)
Source: the owner’s longer laptop version “fal.ai - Generative Media Platform & MCP Server” (published 2025-01-22). Pricing and uptime claims from it were not carried over (older than the pricing above, or vendor marketing, unverified).
Platform components (per the laptop copy; vendor claims unverified)
- Model APIs: “600+” models for image, video, audio and 3D (FLUX, SDXL, Kling, Stable Video Diffusion, MusicGen), HTTP API with Python/JavaScript SDKs, per-output pricing, custom fine-tuned model endpoints.
- Serverless GPUs (H100, H200, B200, A100 listed) and dedicated compute clusters for training and fine-tuning.
- Enterprise: SOC 2, SSO, private endpoints, usage analytics. Listed customers (Canva, Perplexity, Poe, PlayAI) unverified.
fal MCP server (community-built)
- Repository https://github.com/raveenb/fal-mcp-server (redirects to a luminarylane-maintained project; MIT licence; 18 tools; install via
uvx fal-mcp-server, pip or a Docker image; needs aFAL_KEYAPI key). Verified on GitHub 2026-10-01. It is a community project, not published by fal. - Tools: image generation (
generate_image, structured, image-to-image), editing (remove_background,upscale_image,edit_image,inpaint_image,resize_image,compose_images), video (generate_video, from image, from video), audio (generate_music), utilities (list_models,recommend_model,get_pricing,get_usage,upload_file). - Transports: STDIO (local) and HTTP/SSE (Docker). The laptop copy also gives a hosted endpoint
https://docs.fal.ai/mcpfor Claude Desktop; that URL redirects (308) to https://fal.ai/docs/mcp, which returned HTTP 405 to an automated fetch, so an official hosted MCP server is unverified. - Example Claude Desktop local config:
{"mcpServers":{"fal":{"command":"uvx","args":["fal-mcp-server"],"env":{"FAL_KEY":"your-api-key"}}}} - Related: Model Context Protocol, Claude, Cursor.
