HyperFrames
An open-source framework that turns HTML, CSS, media and seekable animations into deterministic MP4 videos, made by HeyGen. Part of Open-source motion studio: 20 repos.
Checked 2026-10-27 against the GitHub repository, its README, and the npm or PyPI registry where relevant.
| Runtime | Node.js 22+ and FFmpeg; the renderer seeks each frame in headless Chrome and encodes with FFmpeg. No GPU requirement stated. |
| How an agent drives it | CLI, non-interactive by default, and plain HTML files. Deterministic by design: the README states the same input gives the same frames. This fits a video pipeline directly. |
| License | Apache-2.0 (GitHub API and LICENSE). |
| Maintenance | Latest GitHub release v0.8.208, 2026-10-27; repo pushed the same day; not archived. Pre-1.0 and releasing several times a day, so APIs may move. |
What it gives you
- Input: an
index.htmlcomposition withdata-start,data-durationanddata-track-indexattributes on clips, plus a paused GSAP timeline (or CSS, Lottie, Three.js, Anime.js, WAAPI or a custom frame adapter). Output: MP4. - CLI:
npx hyperframes init, preview, render; also lint, inspect and catalog install (hyperframes add). A catalog of about 450 ready-made blocks (transitions, overlays, captions, charts, maps) is described in the README’s skill table. - Seven published agent skills (core set
/hyperframes,/hyperframes-cli,/hyperframes-registry,/media-use; on demand/figma,/slideshow,/remotion-to-hyperframes), plus a Claude Code plugin. - Render paths: local, Docker, and AWS Lambda.
Key differentiator
Compositions are plain HTML with data attributes: no React, no bundler and no proprietary timeline format, so an agent can write and edit them as text. Animation is adapter-based, so GSAP, Lottie, Three.js and Anime.js timelines can be driven frame by frame. Apache-2.0 with no company-size threshold, against Remotion’s source-available license. Source: the README’s “Why HyperFrames?” and “HyperFrames vs Remotion” sections (vendor claims, not independently tested).
Pick something else when
Remotion when you want React components, a mature cloud renderer (Remotion Lambda) or an embeddable Player and editor starter, and your license tier is free. Motion Canvas or Revideo when you prefer a TypeScript generator-function model. FFmpeg alone when you only cut, scale and concatenate existing footage.
Agent fit
Strong. It is the only one of the 20 built for the agent loop: skills, non-interactive CLI, text-only composition, deterministic output. Note that HeyGen publishes it and the /media-use skill can call HeyGen services as well as free local tools.
Overlap with the rest of the stack
Direct alternative to Remotion. Depends on FFmpeg. Its adapters take Anime.js and Three.js timelines. See the rendering comparison.
