Peter Steinberger (SteiPete)
Developer and entrepreneur: founder of PSPDFKit (now Nutrient), creator of the open-source personal agent OpenClaw, and, since February 2026, an OpenAI employee working on personal agents (his about page).
Career
- Founded and bootstrapped PSPDFKit, a PDF SDK for iOS, Android, web and other platforms, now branded Nutrient; his about page describes a nine-figure exit before he stepped back. (Earlier draft details such as the 2010 founding year and 60+ staff came from an old profile and are not re-verified.)
- Long-time iOS/macOS developer and open-source contributor (GitHub @steipete).
- Created OpenClaw (earlier known as Clawdbot and Moltbot; see OpenClaw and Clawdis note): an MIT-licensed assistant that runs on your own machine and connects to messaging apps. The repo shows about 391k stars (2026-10-05). It is now stewarded by the independent OpenClaw Foundation (501(c)(3)), funded by donors including Amazon, OpenAI and Red Hat per the README.
- Announced he was joining OpenAI to “build an agent that even my mum can use”; OpenClaw moves to a foundation to stay independent (his blog post).
- An earlier vault note said OpenClaw uses Mario Zechner’s pi-ai (Pi) for LLM access; not re-verified.
