Mario Zechner

Austrian independent software developer, coach and angel investor (based in Graz per his website). Co-creator of the libGDX game framework and author of the Pi coding agent.

Background

  • Self-described independent developer with experience across academia, startups, industry and open source; expertise in applied machine learning, compiler engineering and computer graphics (his website, 2026-10-05).
  • Co-creator (with Nathan Sweet) of libGDX, an Apache-2.0 cross-platform Java game framework (desktop, Android, iOS, WebGL). Wikipedia lists a Duke’s Choice Award in 2014.
  • Press coverage on his food-price transparency project (Wired) and AI chatbot work (Der Standard), per his website.

Pi

  • Pi is a minimal, extensible coding-agent harness (blog post 2025-11-30, “Pi: A Minimal Coding Agent”). Four core tools (read, write, edit, bash), system prompt plus tool definitions under about 1,000 tokens, “YOLO by default” (no permission popups), no built-in sub-agents, plan mode or to-dos; the author states in his own post that Pi performed well on Terminal-Bench 2.0 against Codex, Cursor and Windsurf (not independently checked).
  • Monorepo packages: pi-ai (unified multi-provider LLM API), pi-agent-core, pi-tui, pi-coding-agent. MIT licence; about 112.7k GitHub stars as of 2026-10-05.
  • As of 2026-10-05 the repo has moved from badlogic/pi-mono to the earendil-works organisation, pi.dev says Pi is built by Earendil Inc., and recent releases added MCP integration (the 2025 post said no MCP).
  • An earlier vault note stated that pi-ai is the LLM layer under OpenClaw by Peter Steinberger (not re-verified). Related tool: mcporter (wraps MCP servers as CLIs).
  • Full tool note: Pi Coding Agent.
