Gemini 3.5 Pro — cancelled

by Google / Google DeepMind

Announced, repeatedly delayed, and ultimately cancelled in August 2026. Recorded because the cancellation itself is the notable event.

Part of the Gemini 3 series.

Notes

The Pro tier of Gemini 3.5 never shipped. Coverage tracks a slow slide from leak excitement to
open criticism as the Flash tier iterated past it — 3.5 Flash, then 3.6 Flash, then 3.7 Flash all
released while Pro slipped. Its cancellation coincided with open-weight models (Qwen 3.8 Max)
publishing weights for comparable capability, which is the framing most sources adopted.

Kept as a note rather than omitted: a cancelled flagship is a real part of the series history,
and its absence explains why the Gemini 3 line is Flash-dominated.
