Amp

by Amp Inc. (spun out of Sourcegraph)

Coding agent and development environment “built for the frontier”.

Facts

  • Company: Sourcegraph and Amp became two independent companies, announced 2025-12-02: Dan Adler leads Sourcegraph; Quinn Slack and Beyang Liu run Amp Inc. Amp is a separate product from Sourcegraph’s Cody (a secondary-source claim of a “Cody rebrand” is unsupported). See sourcegraph (company note in RESOURCES/COMPANIES).
  • Surfaces (ampcode.com manual, 2026-10-02): web, native macOS and iOS apps, and a terminal CLI; threads sync across them.
  • Models: routes work between frontier models; the manual names GPT-5.6 and Claude Fable 5.1 plus fast models (see gpt-5-and-gpt-6-family, Claude Fable 5.1). The team calls the product opinionated, with no backward-compatibility promise.
  • Orbs: isolated remote machines per thread so tasks keep running after you leave.
  • AGENTS.md: supported; Amp co-developed the format (see agents-md).
  • Plans (ampcode.com/pricing, 2026-10-02): Hobby is free with all product features: bring your own keys (BYOK) or your own runners carry no Amp token fees or limits, and orbs are pay-as-you-go. Individual is a paid monthly plan with a bundle of orb time. Teams have no extra charge, members can sit on different tiers. Enterprise is custom (pooled credits, audit logs, IP allowlisting). A social post by Quinn Slack (relayed by aicoder.com, early Sept 2026) announced the free-BYOK change. The earlier ad-supported “Amp Free” tier (launched Oct 2025) is no longer the model: secondary sources say ads were dropped in March 2026 and the tier paused later (not confirmed from a vendor page).

2026 status

Active and independent; the manual and pricing page were live and reference the current frontier models on 2026-10-02.
