Adobe Acrobat AI Assistant

by Adobe

Generative-AI features layered onto Acrobat/Reader for working with PDFs: summarize, ask questions, generate an outline, turn documents into a presentation, or generate a podcast-style audio conversation about them — plus an AI-upgraded version of the older Read Aloud text-to-speech feature.

Features

  • Generative Summary — overview of a file (or multiple files in a “PDF Space”) with
citations linking back to the source location
  • Generative Q&A — ask questions about document content, answers cite the source
  • Generative Outline — extracts key points/structure from a document
  • Generate Podcast — pulls notes, transcripts, and reports from a PDF Space and turns
them into a podcast-style audio conversation; tailorable as a summary, highlights, or a
deeper dive. Comparable in concept to NotebookLM’s Audio Overview, but
scoped to Acrobat’s document/PDF workflow rather than a general research notebook
  • Generate Presentation — turns a document into a visual/interactive report or slide
    presentation
  • AI editing tools — AI-assisted edit, sign, redact, compress, and custom image
    creation inside a PDF

Read Aloud — two different things with the same name

This is the source of the account-prompt confusion:

  • Classic Read Aloud (long-standing feature): free, uses your OS’s built-in
text-to-speech voices (Windows/macOS system voices), and has historically not
required an Adobe account or sign-in.
  • AI-voice Read Aloud (2026-era): when signed in as a paid/Premium user, Acrobat
instead connects to Adobe’s online AI voices for more natural narration. This is the
version that prompts for an Adobe account — and, per the pricing below, for a paid
AI Assistant plan to actually use the AI voices rather than just sign in.
  • Generate Podcast is unambiguously part of the paid AI Assistant feature set — it
requires both an Adobe account and an active AI Assistant entitlement.

Practical takeaway for account-hesitant users: the original, no-login Read Aloud (system
voices) should still be reachable if you decline the AI-voice upgrade prompt, though
Adobe’s UI increasingly nudges toward sign-in by making that the default path.
