MotherDuck
Company behind the serverless cloud data warehouse built on DuckDB. Co-founded by Jordan Tigani (ex-Google BigQuery; “Chief Duck Herder”); DuckLabs, founded by DuckDB creators Hannes Muehleisen and Mark Raasveldt, became a co-founder of the venture. The founding team first met in Seattle the week of 2022-06-20 (company About page).

- 2022-11-15: $47.5 million seed and Series A from Andreessen Horowitz, Redpoint, Madrona, Amplify and Altimeter (seed led by Tomasz Tunguz per the About page).
- 2023-09-20: 100 million.
Product timeline: waitlist launch about June 2023 (blog of 2023-09-20: “three months ago we announced MotherDuck … under a waitlist”; open to all on 2023-09-20); General Availability announced 2024-06-11 (company blog). Post-money valuations (400M after Series B) appeared in an earlier version of this note and are NOT supported by any page I opened; removed. Rounds after 2023-09-20, current leadership and the exact private-preview date are unverified. Wikipedia’s DuckDB page says MotherDuck received $100 million, consistent with the blog’s total.
