Databricks

Databricks is the data and AI platform company built around the “lakehouse” idea (data warehouse and data lake in one platform, with Unity Catalog for governance). It grew out of the Apache Spark project (per Wikipedia) and has expanded from analytics into databases (Lakebase) and AI agents (Agent Bricks, Genie).

AI strategy (as of 2026-10-05)

Databricks frames the next phase as “agents working across the business”: governed data in the lakehouse, an operational Postgres layer (Lakebase) for agents, Genie for business users, and a gateway to manage many model vendors. The 2026-08 funding is earmarked for Unity AI Gateway, Lakebase and Genie (press release).
