Dormant since October 2025
GitHub API (read 2026-10-01): 158 stars, not archived, last push 2025-10-21; newest release v0.0.45 (2025-09-30; npm latest is also 0.0.45). No commits or releases in the 11 months since. Treat as unmaintained niche tooling; its core idea is now partly built into clients (see below).
Overview
HyperTool MCP is an MCP server that sits in front of several other MCP servers and exposes only curated, task-specific toolsets to the AI, to avoid overwhelming the model with 50+ tools. License: MIT with the Commons Clause (LICENSE file read 2026-10-02: no right to Sell the Software; GitHub shows “Other” for this reason; README/npm say MIT); npm author is OneGrep, Inc.; website toolprint.ai.
- Combine tools from many MCP servers and present only relevant subsets.
- “Personas”: pre-built bundles of MCP servers plus curated toolsets (example repo
toolprint/awesome-mcp-personas). - Guideline in the README/earlier note: keep toolsets small (3-7 tools).
What changed in 2026
- The project has not moved since October 2025 (no 2026 release or commit).
- The problem it targets (tool-definition bloat from many MCP servers) is now addressed by clients: Claude Code has MCP Tool Search, a lazy-loading mechanism enabled by default that lists tool names and fetches definitions on demand (Claude Code MCP docs, read 2026-10-02; the docs do not state a context-percentage threshold, and the earlier “about 10% of context” figure from press coverage is unconfirmed). Persona/toolset curation remains useful mainly for clients without such lazy loading.
- README claims (“watch your AI pick the right tool 89% more often” with no cited study, “less than 10ms overhead” for token counting) are unsubstantiated vendor claims and should not be relied on.
Quickstart
Verified against the repo README (2026-10-02):
cp .mcp.json .mcp.hypertool.json
npx -y @toolprint/hypertool-mcp mcp run --mcp-config .mcp.hypertool.json Register it in your client’s mcpServers with command: npx and those args. Persona commands, verified in the README: hypertool-mcp persona add awesome-mcp-personas/personas/web-dev, then npx -y @toolprint/hypertool-mcp mcp run --persona web-dev [--equip-toolset frontend]. Persona names in the README: web-dev, data-scientist, devops, content-creator, researcher. Client support per README: Cursor/VS Code hot-swap; Claude Desktop works after restart; Claude Code hot-swap “coming soon” (unchanged while the repo is dormant).
Comparable approaches: gradio-toolsets (deferred loading), rube (hosted single endpoint), Docker MCP Toolkit profiles (see docker-mcp-vs-gradio-toolsets-comparison).

None blocking. The 89% and <10ms figures are vendor claims without evidence and are labelled as such above.
