Google Antigravity

by Google

Agent-first development platform: desktop command center, IDE, CLI and SDK; successor to Gemini CLI.

Gemini CLI is superseded (sunset 2026-06-18, verified 2026-09-30)

Google announced on 2026-05-19 (I/O) that Gemini CLI, Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions and their GitHub integrations would stop serving free and paid individual users (Free, Google AI Pro, Ultra) on 2026-06-18, replaced by Antigravity CLI (rebuilt in Go; keeps Agent Skills, Hooks, Subagents; extensions become Antigravity plugins; no 1:1 feature parity at launch). Enterprise (Standard/Enterprise licence) customers were not affected. Primary source: Google Developers Blog, “An important update: Transitioning Gemini CLI to Antigravity CLI”. KB-AI has no gemini-cli note; the vault-root gemini-cli.md (outside this folder) describes the old tool and should carry the same banner (lifecycle: superseded).

What it is (antigravity.google, 2026-09-30)

  • Antigravity 2.0 desktop app: command center for managing multiple local agents in parallel, with Projects, multiple workspaces and scheduled messages.
  • Antigravity IDE: agentic IDE (a heavily modified VS Code fork per Wikipedia) with an agent manager and artifacts.
  • Antigravity CLI (agy): terminal-first surface for autonomous agents, shell commands and background subagents.
  • SDK: prototype custom agents in Python.
  • First announced 2025-11-18 alongside Gemini 3 as a public preview; Wikipedia lists stable 2.1.1 on 2026-06-22.

Models

Gemini models (site highlights Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.7 Flash). At launch it also supported Anthropic Claude Sonnet/Opus 4.6 and GPT-OSS-120B (Wikipedia); current third-party model availability was not re-checked.

Pricing

antigravity.google: offered “at no charge” for individual developers; enterprise options for organizations. Usage limits not captured.

Caveats

  • Code is processed by Google’s services; evaluate for proprietary code. (The earlier claim that it is a “cloud-based IDE” was not supported; it is a desktop app.)
  • Gate commits and review agent output; autonomy needs verification.
  • Historic note: earlier drafts used a placeholder URL and Gemini 3 Pro / 2.5 Computer Use feature claims; treat those as launch-era.

Background and practitioner notes (merged 2026-10-02 from the former “Google Antigravity” note)

Sources for this section are launch coverage and YouTube walkthroughs listed below; nothing here was re-verified on the vendor site.

Launch (November 2025)

Introduced alongside the Gemini 3 family as an agentic platform in public preview (Google blog, https://blog.google/products/gemini/gemini-3/). Agents plan, write, test and explain code and emit Artifacts (plans, diffs, test results, screenshots, logs) so humans can review. It offers a Manager view (supervising several agents in parallel) and an Editor view (IDE-style), with editor, terminal and browser access for agents.

Concerns raised in launch coverage (Digit, India Today, Constellation Research)

  • Job-displacement worries because it positions agents as “junior engineers”.
  • Accountability, maintainability and hidden decision logic when agents make design choices.
  • Security: agents that run commands and edit repos need least-privilege guardrails.
  • Dependence: teams may lose familiarity with code that agents wrote.

Workflow tips from 2026 videos (Zubair Trabzada 2026-01-21, Skill Leap AI 2026-01-28)

  • Install the Chrome browser extension so agents can test web UIs visually.
  • The MCP (Model Context Protocol) store connects services such as Supabase, Figma, GitHub, Stripe/PayPal and Looker via access tokens. (The earlier note expanded MCP as “Model Connector Protocol”, which is wrong.)
  • A project-level instructions file (instructions.md per the videos) holds conventions and agent rules.
  • Reported integrations: Gems with NotebookLM knowledge, Google Stitch for UI mockups handed to agents, Firebase for backends, an n8n MCP connector (video claims).
  • Models reported in early 2026: Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview (also reached through OpenRouter) and Gemini 3 Flash.

Reported 2026 timeline (earlier vault note, video-summary based, unverified)

2026-01-19 “Antigravity 2.0” with a free agent tier; 2026-05-17 update wave, still free; 2026-06-01 AGY CLI fixes (credits, context, limits); 2026-06-05 agent-lifecycle integration with Gemini Enterprise; 2026-07-29 paired with Gemini 3.6 Flash; 2026-08-23 free tier alongside the Gemini 3.7 Flash free API. These dates conflict in part with Wikipedia (stable 2.1.1 on 2026-06-22) and antigravity.google; treat them as indicative only. The same coverage promotes it with Obsidian as a free second-brain stack; see Second Brain with AI and Gemini 3 series.
