Reliant

What it is

Reliant (Reliant Labs, Inc.) is a desktop AI coding environment: chat with your codebase, where each message runs a programmable workflow defined in YAML. Workflows and presets live in the repo as .reliant/ files. The GitHub tagline: “a complete agentic environment with remote connections, workflow-based chats, and more”. This is not Reliant Paper or other unrelated “Reliant” products.

Facts (checked 2026-10-05)

  • Source-available, not open source: the repository is public under the Business Source License 1.1 (licensor Reliant Labs, Inc.; the Additional Use Grant allows production use except offering it to third parties on a hosted or embedded basis to compete with Reliant’s paid versions; Change License Apache-2.0 four years after each version’s publication; LICENSE file, 2026-10-08). GitHub reports the licence as “Other”. Repo created 2026-01-15; latest release v1.7.16 (2026-09-26); 74 stars; last push 2026-10-07.
  • Platforms: macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows (x64, ARM), Linux (x86_64, ARM64); Homebrew and direct installers.
  • Models: Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, GitHub Copilot, AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Groq, OpenRouter, custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints; MCP servers supported. It drives LLMs itself rather than wrapping other agent CLIs.
  • Features: multi-agent patterns (parallel, debate, chaining), git worktrees, Auto/Manual/Plan execution modes.

Context

Tier list: C tier, “workflow chat. Too new” - matches the workflow-based-chat design. Closer to an agent harness than a pure multiplexer like Tortie. Compare Conductor, Superset.

Open items

  • Pricing/billing model: the LICENSE refers to “paid version(s)” but the README and reliantlabs.io (client-rendered; terms and privacy pages not readable without JavaScript) give no plan details.
  • Tier-list placement is community opinion.
