Tortie

What it is

Tortie is a native macOS “agent multiplexer”: one window with every project as a tab, each with its own coding-agent sessions, git state, file tree and editor. Sessions run in a private tmux server, so they survive closing or restarting the app. Author: gregce (GitHub user). Homepage: tortie.sh.

Facts (re-checked 2026-10-08 against GitHub API, README, tortie.sh/llms.txt)

  • Platform: macOS on Apple silicon only (site: macOS 15.7.9 or later); no other OS planned for now.
  • Licence: Apache-2.0, open source, runs locally, free.
  • Maturity: repo created 2026-08-12; latest release v0.110.0 (2026-09-21); 88 stars; last push 2026-10-08. Pre-1.0. tortie.sh/llms.txt says Tortie is not a VS Code fork, not a coding-agent harness and not an autonomous orchestrator: it is a native macOS operator surface over tmux-owned sessions.
  • Agents: 13 built-in profiles, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor CLI, opencode, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, Pi, Antigravity, Droid, Grok.
  • Features: Cmd+J jumps to the session waiting for input, scrollback replay and per-agent resume commands, “Catch Me Up” project summaries, git sidebar, Monaco editor with diffs, ripgrep cross-project search, markdown/HTML preview.

Context

A 2026 community tier list put it in C tier (“Mac only, tiny community”), which matches the macOS-only scope and 88 stars. It focuses on session persistence and an IDE-like shell rather than worktree-per-task automation. Compare Superset, Conductor, super.engineering, Sidecar.
