Domo (data and AI platform)

What it is

Domo is a cloud platform combining data integration (1,000+ connectors and Magic ETL per the FY2026 10-K), BI dashboards (“cards”), apps and automation; vendor materials position it around AI agents. Closed-source status is not verified. Company note: Domo (company).

Ownership changed

Progress Software signed an Asset Purchase Agreement on 2026-07-22 to acquire substantially all of Domo’s assets and employees (excluding NOL carryforwards) for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $400 million, subject to adjustments, and completed the sale on 2026-09-22. Domo, Inc. changed its name to Huckleberry.ai, Inc. the same day (SEC 8-Ks, checked 2026-10-07; 10-Q filed 2026-09-03 also confirms the Asset Purchase Agreement). Maker and history

Incorporated 2010 (as Shacho, Inc.) and led by founder Joshua G. James (FY2026 10-K); an IPO in 2018 (not verified); asset sale to Progress in 2026. See company note.

Subscription platform (consumption-based licensing is described by the vendor; not verified here). AI features as of 2026-10-05

• AI Service Layer (announced at Domopalooza 2026-03-25, per SiliconANGLE and TechTarget): orchestration framework made of AI Agent Builder (conversational agents with roles, and goal-oriented agents triggered on demand or by events), AI Toolkits (packaged tools, data, workflows and instructions, e.g. a financial-analyst role), a central AI Library, and the Domo MCP Server.
• Domo MCP Server: is described by SiliconANGLE as letting MCP clients such as Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini read Domo data and act in Domo (build a card, trigger a workflow). Announced 2026-03-25; availability not confirmed.
• Availability: SiliconANGLE said the framework would launch “this summer” (2026); TechTarget said launch dates were not disclosed. I could not confirm GA. A later Domo press release about admin controls over agents was seen in search results only and is not verified.
• Analyst view (TechTarget 2026-03-25): ahead of traditional BI vendors on agentic AI, but weak differentiation against Databricks/Snowflake, and financially challenged.
• Post-acquisition support for these features under Progress: unknown.

Strengths and weaknesses vs peers

• Strength (as described in TechTarget’s coverage, secondary): integrated data-to-action stack and MCP-first strategy.
• Weakness (TechTarget; the Knowi blog is a competitor, so treat as biased): financial difficulty is cited as context for the asset sale (the sale itself is confirmed by SEC filings); roadmap uncertainty for customers is commentary, not fact.
