Strategy One (formerly MicroStrategy)

What it is

Strategy One is the enterprise BI and analytics platform of Strategy Software (formerly MicroStrategy): governed semantic layer, dashboards, reporting, and an AI layer (Auto, agents) plus Strategy Mosaic, a universal semantic layer meant to feed other BI tools and AI apps. Maker and history

MicroStrategy was founded in 1989 (FY2022 10-K); the legal name became Strategy Inc on 2025-08-11 (FY2025 10-K). See company note.

Strategy One (cloud and on-prem), Strategy One Standard (smaller edition; user limits not verified), Mosaic and Mosaic Studio. Education and trial access: not verified. Pricing: see vendor site (strategy.com returns 403 to my fetcher); no prices recorded.

Data connectivity and modelling

Enterprise semantic layer (attributes, metrics, hierarchies, security filters). Mosaic exposes it via SQL, DAX, REST and Python APIs with connectors for Tableau, Power BI and Excel, over 200 data sources, an in-memory query acceleration engine, and AI-assisted modelling in Mosaic Studio (DBTA, 2025-07-09). Power BI multi-source connectivity and DAX DirectQuery field parameters listed in the September 2026 release.

Cloud (Strategy Cloud), on-premises, and hybrid; Library server (Tomcat) in self-managed installs.

AI features as of 2026-10-05

• Mosaic: described as a “universal data layer” in the FY2025 10-K and already named in the Q2 2025 10-Q (filed 2025-08-05); DBTA coverage says available as of July 2025. Exact GA date unverified.
• Strategy Auto: named as a Strategy trademark in the FY2025 10-K; the “Auto 2.0” release date is unverified (removed).
• MCP server: Mosaic preview/available dates for MCP unverified; documented clients include Copilot Studio, Gemini Enterprise, ChatGPT and AWS. From the June 2026 release only a Library-server restart is needed (docs, opened 2026-10-07); an administrator enables it once per environment (Workstation access); a client secret is needed for manual OAuth setup (Copilot Studio, Gemini Enterprise, ChatGPT, AWS). Before June 2026 a Tomcat restart was also needed.
• June 2026: live intelligent cubes as data sources for agents.
• September 2026 release (“What’s New”): Explorer (new conversational experience with long-term memory and a Universal Agent), pinned questions, dynamic filters, MCP accuracy improvements, Auto Dashboards with AI descriptions, scheduled Mosaic model refreshes, JDBC access to Mosaic Sentinel data.
• Tier/licence entitlements and data-residency: not verified.
