Qlik Cloud Analytics

What it is

Qlik’s BI and analytics platform, built around the associative engine: all loaded data is kept in an in-memory associative model, so selecting a value in any chart highlights related and unrelated (excluded) values across the whole app rather than running a fixed query path. Product family: Qlik Cloud Analytics (SaaS), Qlik Sense Enterprise (client-managed) (Windows, on-prem or self-hosted) and the older QlikView. Qlik Answers is the conversational/agentic layer in Qlik Cloud.

Maker and history

  • Company: Qlik; founded in Sweden in 1993 (Qlik 10-K for FY2015, SEC); HQ King of Prussia, Pennsylvania (qlik.com global-offices page).
  • Thoma Bravo-controlled since the take-private merger completed 2016-08-22 (SEC Form 8-K). In 2025 ADIA (Abu Dhabi Investment Authority) took a significant minority stake; Thoma Bravo remains majority owner (Qlik press release 2025-05-08). Acquisitions per Qlik press releases: Attunity (completed 2019-05-06), Talend (intent announced 2023-01-05, closed 2023-05-16; both were Thoma Bravo-backed), Mozaic Data (2023-12-19), Kyndi’s IP and team (2024-01-18).

Products and editions

  • Qlik Cloud Analytics: tiers Starter, Standard, Premium, Enterprise, capacity-based (a fixed “data for analysis” allowance per plan, not per-use consumption); a free trial is offered. Per the pricing page (2026-10-08) all four tiers include access to Answers agents and the MCP server; Standard adds more Answers agents, GenAI on unstructured data and unlimited extra users; Premium adds predictive analytics via AutoML and additional GenAI capacity; Enterprise adds scale, multi-region tenants and larger app sizes. Pricing: https://www.qlik.com/us/pricing/data-analytics (no amounts recorded here).
  • Qlik Sense Enterprise (client-managed): two releases a year, May and November (the Qlik Sense help site offers May 2026, November 2025, May 2025 and November 2024). The support period per release is not verified here.
  • QlikView: legacy. Qlik’s QlikView Product Lifecycle page (updated 2026-07-10) lists 12.100 released 2025-09-23 with end of support 2027-09-30, and 12.90 (May 2024) with end of support 2026-10-31. Qlik pushes migration to Qlik Cloud / Qlik Sense.
  • No free desktop edition known to me; a free trial exists for Qlik Cloud (see Open items).
  • Data-integration side: Qlik Talend Cloud (Talend + Qlik Data Integration) and Qlik Open Lakehouse (managed Apache Iceberg service in Qlik Talend Cloud, GA 2025-09-16, runs in the customer’s cloud account with bring-your-own compute; engines such as Athena, Snowflake, Spark, Trino).

Data connectivity and modelling

Qlik load script in the Data Load Editor (QVD files, resident loads, associations by field name), plus Qlik Cloud data flows and Talend/Qlik integration for pipelines. Set analysis and chart expressions for calculations. Data products in Qlik Cloud now carry shared business definitions (measures, dimensions, relationships) per the April 2026 announcement.

Deployment

SaaS (Qlik Cloud, incl. AWS Marketplace procurement), client-managed Windows (Qlik Sense Enterprise), QlikView Server/Desktop (legacy). Embedding and mashups via APIs.

AI features (as of 2026-10-05)

  • Qlik Answers: conversational answers grounded in the Qlik analytics engine and curated documents. Agentic experience in Qlik Cloud GA 2026-02-10, with Qlik Answers as the unified conversational interface (Qlik press release dated 2026-02-10).
  • Qlik MCP server: GA 2026-02-10, confirmed in Qlik’s press release “Qlik Brings Agentic Analytics to General Availability and Launches MCP Server for Third-Party Assistants” (datePublished 2026-02-10): it exposes Qlik at engine, tool and agent levels so third-party assistants such as Anthropic Claude can use governed data through Qlik APIs.
  • Discovery Agent: part of the same 2026-02-10 GA release (monitors key measures and surfaces anomalies); the 2026-04-14 press release says it surfaced more than 100,000 discoveries since its February GA. (An earlier version of this note wrongly said it was announced after the GA.)
  • Predict Agent, Automate Agent, Analytics Agent (development tasks), semantic layer for data products: announced in the 2026-04-14 press release at Qlik Connect 2026 (“Qlik Extends Analytics from Answers to Agentic Action”). The release does not state GA, preview or licence tier for them; pricing-page tiers mention predictive AutoML in Premium and above. Treat as announced.
  • Caveat: AI features are in Qlik Cloud; I found no confirmation of equivalent agentic features in client-managed Qlik Sense.

Strengths and weaknesses (opinion, not verified)

  • Strength: associative exploration across the whole model; strong script-based ETL; mature governance; broad data-integration story via Talend.
  • Weakness: Qlik script and set analysis have a learning curve; QlikView end of life forces migration; capacity-based licensing needs planning. Peer comparisons (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) not sourced here.
